Submit Assignment 2.1 Let's Play!
Playful Plants: Engaging Children in the Garden
In our lesson this week, we talked about how learning take place through play, and how to design a garden with Playful Plants and creating gardens for play and learning.
As a pre-activity, we asked you to take a moment, go to your garden and imagine that you have never seen those plants before. What features were your senses drawn to? Which plants were most Interesting and evoked any feelings.
For this assignment, keep those plants in mind, and review the learning activities featured in Playful Plants: Engaging Children in the Garden. If you have a group of students with access to the garden, do one (or more!) of the activities shown. If not, try out one or more of the activities yourself (from a child's perspective), and submit your reflection on the experience here. Most important, have fun!
- What did children (or you) find interesting?
- How might you build upon this activity to further children’s engagement?
- Can this be improved with a similar activity? How?
🎒If your program is more suited for older learners, you can adapt the "Playful Plants' assignment to your age group. Do the exercise from the perspective of the age group you are working with. Examples might include a sensory perspective; exploring new plants and food crops they have never seen before; any connection that plants have to the nature that surrounds them. Be creative!
