I don't have anything too deep to say about the intersection between art and science, but I will say that it's really struck me how completely perfect each plant is....everything about a plant or flower follows a pattern- the way the leaves grow, the way the petals open, how many flowers are on each stem, etc, and so in order to accurately portray a plant or flower, you have to pay attention to and follow that pattern. There's a lot of room for creative expression within that pattern, but if one ignores the science bit of it, then the artwork may not be identifiable or believable. This is a pretty obvious thing but it's really been on my mind this week as I've been reading through the book and going through the exercises.
Hi Bethany!
I like your view of plants following a pattern. I have never really thought of it that way exactly. It is really great to see how each of us interprets what we are learning. Now I have a new way to look at plants. Thank you!
