Working as an advanced artist it is important to organize your various art tools. During our busy schedules sometimes we may throw our tools in a box, mixed together without a second thought. The few tips below will be helpful in extending the life of your tools, keeping yourself less stressed from clutter and have a better idea of the material you have. Spend a few hours organizing your art supplies before you get started with illustrating. It is well worth the effort when you have clean and organized tools. Use the examples below to help harmonize your life!

Keep each different medium in separate containers with labels. If you carry your pastels, charcoal and pencils in one case, that can create a big mess! These are your tools of the trade, you want to respect them. Below you will see a great pencil case from many different suppliers. Holds all the pencils and is mobile! A toolbox or tote with multiple compartments and a handle is great for mobility as well.

Pencil Case

For your pencils you should have a good pencil sharpener. Don't use an electronic sharper especially for the prismacolor pencils, it will eventually crack them. A good sharpened pencil will make a world of difference with your illustrations.

Becoming an advanced illustrator, you will acquire lots of supplies. Having a storage with multiple drawers or bins will be helpful to keep all your art supplies in one area. Either a tool chest, or a wooden storage is helpful for organizing. Have your own creative ideas on how you organize your supplies? Share your secrets in the blog!
