Seattle Burlap worked with large scale coffee roasters (Tully's and Green Mountain) to reclaimed their burlap bags which were resold for gardening, farming, and landscaping. As you probably know, burlap in a system combined with other biodegradable materials is a perfect natural and biodegradable alternative weed barrier and insulator (
).
Part of the burlap recycling process was to collect, empty, and sort the various bags we collected. Many times green coffee beans were left in the bags. We'd collect these green beans and sell them on a secondary market as well as bring them home to roast for ourselves.
Over the years, the number of coffee machines, gadgets, and the variety of brew methods grew to a point where the question of opening my own shop was undeniably answered!
