My interest in botanical illustration began as a natural extension of my long-standing fascination with the Victorian era and the Romantic movement. I’ve always been drawn to the delicate beauty and sentimentality that defined that period. The ornate natural history prints, the detailed herbarium pages and the poetic reverence for nature that permeated both science and art. Discovering botanical illustration felt like stepping into that world; it combined the precision of scientific observation with the emotional depth and aesthetic sensibility that I admire in Romanticism.
Thank you for sharing this Zoe. It's interesting that we can look at a botanical Illustration from that era and almost immediately know that it was created in that time period. It is very unique and beautiful and does convey a regard for nature that we seem to interpret differently today.
