Hi - I really enjoyed reading what everyone has said so far and agree. Personally, I have found that studying botanical illustration - everything from capturing shapes of leaves with graphite pencil, using negative space, trying to understand color and duplicate color, the use of perspective, composition, etc., etc. has helped me improve my scientific understanding of the plants I study and how they function as part of a larger ecosystem.
