Dan, Mallory, Lisa, Liza, Chelsea, RJ, Isaac, Frank, Meghan, Ryan, and Melissa -

It was a great joy to see/meet everyone yesterday!  Very excited to have you as a part of PDLC  - summer '23.  As you know - PDLC is intended to help you connect to others, better understand the process for program development, and apply the process to a relevant project.

Brilliant Aha's shared!

  • there is a comfort that comes as we practice something
  • finesse and sustainable approaches can come from pushing ideas around with others
  • connecting and asking helps us to find commonalities
  • dialogue helps us to refine needs, goals, and objectives

As mentioned, I will be using the Announcements feature in Moodle to get info to all of you weekly.  Announcements should go to your e-mail...if not, we can figure out what is going on.  Announcements are stored in the course - for easy finding.

Your work right now is to work through the topics as you can and apply ideas to your project.  As shared - we will meet as you can weekly - that is to help you set aside time to get 'er done (and if these dates don't work - set your own or grab a colleague to work with).  The work meeting strategy works well for me - hoping it might work for you as well.  You should see Thursday's 9am - 11am on your calendars.  Each week we will - spend a little time checking in with each other, verbalizing intentions, and then using the Pomodoro strategy of work-break-work.  And then writing down what you got accomplished.

You will also receive a weekly check-in from me.  It will ask for feedback - and if you need a call/zoom/support.  If you are all good - you can choose to ignore these.  But don't be shy about asking for support.  The start of PDLC is YOU and your project.  Pick something that will benefit from this process (Assessing needs, designing objectives, designing experiences, implementation planning, evaluation) and stick to it.

In follow-up from yesterday, a few resources were mentioned/requested that I'll feature:

And - just a thought - for those of you who are brand new - https://dlc.cce.cornell.edu/course/view.php?id=1108 is a new staff orientation resource.   Lots of good resources here to help you to get acquainted with a complex organization.

Thanks again for being involved in PDLC!  Looking forward to working with you!
