In this course, you will submit your work from activities in the Moodle interface. We would like you to practice to ensure the technology is working well. There is nothing more frustrating than preparing to send your first "real" assignment, and finding that you cannot. 

For this exercise, create your “design vision board”. Use the slideshow template provided. It is also an opportunity to get acquainted with slideshows, they are a simple yet effective tool to present your work.

Categories and prompt examples:

A. Water Systems

Examples of keywords to Search Online: 

  • Natural ponds 

  • Rainwater harvesting systems

  • Bioswales

  • Greywater systems,

  • Irrigation systems, etc.

Guiding Questions:

  • How will this water system improve resource efficiency on your site?


B. Plant Systems

Keywords to Search Online:

  • Food forests

  • Medicinal herb garden

  • Fruit orchard

  • Companion planting examples

  • Wildflower gardens for pollinators, etc.

Guiding Questions:

  • How does your system support beneficial insects, birds, or wildlife?


C. Soil Health

Keywords to Search Online:

  • Mulching techniques

  • Compost systems

  • Cover cropping examples

  • Mycorrhizal fungi and soil regeneration

Guiding Questions:

  • Why have you chosen this technique for your site?


D. Structures and Human Spaces

Keywords to Search Online:

  • Natural building techniques

  • Outdoor kitchens in permaculture

  • Shelters 

  • Pathways 

  • Seating areas

  • Outdoor classroom for community education

Guiding Questions:

  • What function does this structure or space serve?

  • How does it enhance the experience of the site?


E. Animals / Wildlife and Ecosystem Support

Keywords to Search Online:

  • Habitat corridors

  • Bug hotels or insect shelters

  • Bird-friendly landscapes

  • Beneficial predator habitats (e.g., owl boxes, bat houses)

  • Constructed wetlands 

Guiding Questions:

  • How does this feature support local wildlife or ecosystems?

  • What specific species would benefit from it?

  • How does it balance human use with ecological health?


F. Energy and Resource Systems

Keywords to Search Online:

  • Solar-powered irrigation systems

  • Wind energy for small farms

  • Biogas systems for composting

  • Passive heating and cooling systems

  • Renewable energy in permaculture

Guiding Questions:

  • How does this system contribute to the site’s energy efficiency?


Submission Guidelines:

  1. Include at least 2 images per category.
