In this section of the introduction module, you will practice using the uploads and discussion forum features on Moodle to build on what you learned in Section I1: Navigating Moodle.

Each week we will have the opportunity to engage with each other through our Discussion Forums. In general, the forum is a space for you to interact freely, to trade information and resources and to support one another with appropriate discourse on topics relevant to community gardens. To get the most out of our weekly forums and to keep the discussion engaging for all, please follow these guidelines:

  • Click on 'add a new discussion' at the beginning each week on Monday or Tuesday to create a new discussion thread.
  • Reply to at least 2 other classmate's discussions at the beginning each week.
  • Keep the discussion going by responding to anyone who posted in your original discussion thread, and respond to any posts you added to other threads.

Keep in mind, there may be specific assignments that require you to post in a discussion forum. This will be different than the general module discussion forum. To successfully complete these assignments, be sure to use the corresponding forum and respond to the assignment prompt. For this week's discussion click on this "Discussion Forum" or the link below.

Assignment 3: Discussion Forum

This week please introduce yourself: where you are from, a little about your community garden, what you hope to gain from this course, and anything else you would like to share. Feel free to upload any photos of yourself or the garden too!

Assignment 4: Upload a photo and description

Community gardens are renowned for their ability to provide several benefits including ecological, environmental, social and food access. However, each community gardener develops a unique approach to gardening in response to their lived experience, local community and available resources. For this assignment, please upload an image that represents your philosophy around community gardening and provide a brief description of both your photo and your philosophy. This image can be abstract, figurative or literal.
