Read and complete Step 6 ‘Compaction’ in the Site Assessment for Gardeners workbook.

You may use the same sticks you used last week for Step 5 (wind) or simply mark the area well on your base map. Target areas where you know you will planting, areas near trees, and especially areas where if construction occurred or vehicles caused compaction. Test 5-10 spots. In the same way you documented the wind activity, note where you put your flags with an ‘X’ on your base map, and number them according to your chart. 

➡️ Please mark each spot with a C or PC for Compacted or Partially Compacted as it describes in the activity. Also hatch areas where you would find tree roots, including trees not on your property with a thin or ballpoint pen.
