Finding Time

Hi Folks -

I have struggled with the concept to finding time. I have found that I need structure to continue, but here are a few things I am doing…

1. I just joined the ASBA (American Society of Botanical Artists, www.asba-art.org ). What I have liked is that they have a symposium (virtual) in the spring as well as zoom sessions throughout the year. I have attended a few zooms (without being a member) and found I picked up something, and the zooms are only I think $25 for non-members. Wasn’t someone interested in lichen? There is a zoom coming up in April “A Lens on Lichens with Christiane Fashek:

2. Joined GNSI Finger Lakes Chapter. This is a local chapter of Scientific Illustrators. I am hoping to learn more at our next meeting.

3. Favorite Book - Bothanical Art Techniques (ASBA). I love reading and looking at this book for inspiration and techniques.

4. Local Drawing Classes - I have taken several 2 day classes in my area for drawing. This has helped me get more drawing time in. I do need to get back to watercolors. I struggle with that medium.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for the recommendations of ASBA and a local GNSI chapter-- There is a GNSI chapter in Washington DC, which is perfect for me!

One way that I find time is by setting really achievable goals-- like, "one completed illustration per month" is not too intimidating, but drawing "enough" or "every day" is really hard to accomplish

Thanks Teresa for the goal setting. As fyi, I just attended my first GNSI chapter meeting here in the Finger Lakes. I found out that the GNSI also published a book on techniques, etc. So I have to check it out. In addition, this chapter has regular show/exhibitions, so that may keep me motivated to draw.

Hope you can connect to the D.C. chapter. Take care.
