As a young kid, springtime meant checking out local streams, marshy bogs and wetlands here in Oswego County. Each Spring the hunt for the best cowslip patch of young and tender but not yet budded cowslips was the tasty treasure (prepared and cooked).. a la cowslip greens or should it be marsh marigold a la greens?
On the other side of the patch is me, Hubert - an avid gardener still growing in knowledge and experience. Always had gardens both vegetable and flower growing up and still to this day. My favorite flower is the "breaded iris" not so favorite is the "iris borer" that can destroy healthy rhizomes in one season or two.
So looking forward to learning with you all.
Hi Hubert!
I really enjoyed your post. This is my first time discovering cowslip (marsh marigold), and I definitely went down a bit of a rabbit hole learning about it and looking up recipes. It’s fascinating how much local knowledge is tied to it, and I appreciate you sharing your experience.
I’m especially excited to learn from an original Oswego County resident and to hear more about your gardening knowledge over the years. I’m looking forward to working with you and the rest of the class on projects and volunteering together to help spread the word throughout Oswego county.
