Exploring and connecting

Since I don’t have a local botanical art group, I’ve been exploring online communities to stay connected and inspired. Groups like the American Society of Botanical Artists (ASBA) and Draw Botanical offer not only learning opportunities but also active online forums and virtual exhibitions. I’m also interested in courses by artists like Wendy Hollender and Dianne Sutherland, which include built-in community support.

Hi,

Zoe, thanks for this - your idea sounds great -- I joined a group called GNSI (Guild of Natural Science Illustrators) (gnsi.org) on Sonja's suggestion last year and find it very stimulating and interesting. Also, in NYC, where I live, there are a lot of museums that show botanical works quite frequently -- the Metropolitan Museum of Art recently had a small show (they also have a standing rotating exhibit of works on paper that often includes botanical illustration) and this week I saw a rather large show of Hilma af Klimt''s work at the Museum of Modern Art. These shows are stimulating to me because they demonstrate what's possible with different media and how illustrator/artists approach their work technically and artistically. The Met and MOMA also now put a lot of works from their exhibits online. It wouldn't surprise me to find the the American Natural HIstory Museum and the Smithsonian's Natural History Museum exhibit botanical illustrators.

Zoe those are great ideas. It sounds like we all want to keep moving forward with botanical art and illustration. It would be great to stay in contact.
