Sharing Exercise 2.1

I really enjoyed Exercise 2.1 and I feel like it turned out pretty well. I am really pleased with the leaf on the right, although I feel like the leaf at the top doesn't quite portray the fold in the center the way I hoped. And overall I'm happy with how the roots turned out. The little leaf turned out a little weird, haha but I was nervous to try to fix it because I didn't want to overdo it.... I'm definitely open to feedback and I would love to know your thoughts on how I could make the drawing better!

HI Bethany!
This is a rally great piece! I like the stippling work and the graceful curve of the root. I am not sure, but if you darkened next to the vein on the top leaf , on the upper side of the vein, it might give the effect you were looking for. I hope more of the class chimes in on this. I think leaf folds in that position are difficult.

Hi Bethany,
I also like the piece. The stippling work on the lower leaf is nice -- I can really see the values -- stippling is something I struggle with so I find it helpful to see how others do it. Also, there's a lot of grace to that lower leaf. On another note, my eye was drawn to the little tangle of roots below the little leaf -- the tangle along with the little leaf conveys a sense of energy and emerging life to the whole piece. The long, lower root looks very realistic. I'm not sure I can offer much help on the fold on the top leaf. I do get a sense of the fold on the bottom of that leaf because of the shading & the overlap on the bottom of the top leaf. Perspective is such a bear! Maybe a different angle would work?
