2.4 Assignment 1: Operational Process
An operational process refers to the structured and systematic approach used to manage daily activities, allocate resources, and ensure the garden functions effectively. This includes processes such as member registration, plot assignments, maintenance schedules, and decision-making procedures. Operational processes help create consistency, efficiency, and accountability within the garden. By aligning these processes with the garden’s organizational values, garden leaders can ensure that all activities support the garden’s long-term mission and sustainability.
Example: If a community garden values sustainability, it can reflect this value in its composting process. An operational process, that could be included in garden memos or bylaws, may require all members to separate organic waste and contribute to a shared composting system. By implementing a structured composting routine, the garden reinforces its commitment to sustainability while reducing waste and enriching the soil naturally.
For this Assignment, create or refine an operational process that is reflective of your garden’s values. This could be a process around communication, shared equipment or provide structure for accessing common use garden beds. To complete the assignment please include the following:
- What is the process and is it likely to be accepted by the members or other garden leaders?
- Which organizational value is it related to?
- How will it improve your gardens operations?
