Journal Entry #1: What did you discover?
For this week's journal entry, comment on something you discovered in the readings and activities in our Introduction & Module One weeks. Perhaps there was a resource that provided an “ah-ha!” moment for you, or a particular quote or remark that you especially connected with.
Expand on this by writing about how it has provided you with a greater insight or understanding of the topic or concept. Most important, how you will use this information to improve your teaching practice or program implementation.
Submit your entry as a pdf or Word document, and identify you as the writer. For example, my submission would be saved as: Donna.AleseCooke.Journal#1.doc
The purpose of your journal is to reflect on what you have learned from each of the readings, discussions, and assignments within each module. There are guiding questions for your journal entries each week; however, you are free to explore your own topics as long as they relate to the course as a whole. Only the instructor sees your journal entries; this helps to build a relationship with the instructor, and provides evidence of your progress through the course.
You may approach your journal entries as you wish, and keep in mind there is no "right" or "wrong" way. The purpose of the journal is for you to reflect on something that interests you, or anything you have learned so far in this course. Most important, how you will use this information to improve your teaching practice and program planning.
Criteria for journals:
- Evidence of connections to readings
- Thoughtful evaluation of course concepts and how they relate to your professional experience and practice
- Reflective, consisting of well developed ideas – not a descriptive summary of what you have learned.
- Submitted at the end of each module, in a timely manner, at least one page in length (double-spaced).
- To be included in your final portfolio project: therefore it should be more of self-reflective learning activity than a sounding board.
- In a nutshell: What have you learned from this experience?
Congratulations on completing Module 1!
