  • ISOTURE Overview

    In this module, you will be introduced to a well-known volunteer management structure called ISOTURE. We will break down this acronym and define each of the seven components for you. At the end of the module, you will test your knowledge by matching the terms and definitions. 

    • What is ISOTURE? 

      ISOTURE is a structured model for volunteer management designed to recruit, develop, and retain volunteers in Cooperative Extension programs. The acronym represents seven key components: Identification, Selection, Orientation, Training, Utilization, Recognition, and Evaluation. 

      Originally developed by Robert Dolan, a professor at North Carolina State University, ISOTURE was introduced as a volunteer management strategy in 1971 by Milton Boyce, the national program leader for 4-H Youth Development. 

      Over time, it has become a cornerstone of Extension volunteer management, emphasizing both volunteer development and organizational sustainability.
